Defending Democracy and the Rule of Law
What happened in the court room and jury box on 5/30/24 is the rule of law, performing as it should. A jury of 12 Americans heard and saw the evidence and made a decision.
Our laws and the Constitution are what protects our Democracy. The now, convicted felon that has attempted to turn the tables on law and order, has once again felt the sting of accountability.
Courts have ruled against the felon before. He has lost court battles over small claims, his university, his charities/foundations and more totaling in the thousands, and over 60 cases related to the 2020 presidential election. He lost a civil suit to E. Jean Carroll. Now, he has been found guilty in a court of law on 34 felony counts.
Until this verdict, Mr Trump had been defended by the rule of law, in all of his various appeals and delays. We know that he would continue to destroy the rule of law and the Constitution, if he were to win the Presidency again.
Adding in the recent rulings of the Supreme Court, on Trump's immunity and 'Bump Stocks', with Judge Cannon's dismissal of the documents' case, we have a serious problem with those that oversee our lawmaking - perpetrated by Senator McConnell and Donald Trump.
Remember, the very rule of law that has defended Mr Trump, and allowed his defensive maneuvers and delays, is the very system that he intends to destroy, if elected again!
Mr Trump is an architect of his own demise, and ours, if we allow him to be elected in 2024.
The Attack on the Capitol
We all witnessed the former president calling out that elections were rigged as far back as 2015, and that he won through the electoral college process, though he lost the popular vote. He began calling out the 2020 election as rigged early on and has maintained that lie. He lost the popular vote by 3 million votes in 2016. He then again questioned the outcome of the 2020 election and claimed fraud although he lost by 7 million votes.
As a direct result of his lie and rhetoric, a few thousand people came to the Capitol to ‘make things right’ at the request of their lying president. With the indictments, the investigation has nearly come to a close, and it is likely that the former president strategized and conspired with others to prevent a proper outcome to our lawful election. I favor accountability for all that participated and caused January 6th to happen.
The election was not 'stolen'. The former president lost by 7 million votes. Tens of thousands of elected public servants took their posts as a result of the last election. Only one, claims fraud.
In order to fortify our institutions and resolve the fraud perpetrated on the American people by the former president, politicians such as Nick Langworthy cannot represent us. The Republican party needs to re-invent itself, and return to being a pillar for truth, justice, fair play, following the Constitution, believing in law and order, just like they used to. We can no longer follow those that are ill-suited for public service.
We almost lost our democracy on January 6th, 2021.
If we are not careful, in 2024, we may vote ourselves right of our democracy!
